Skills

Package reusable instructions and tool behavior with explicit ownership, permissions, attribution, publishing, and discovery.

Applied guidance

Best practices for skills

Recommended

  • Give each reusable skill an owner, clear purpose, and stated tool dependencies.
  • Trial it with the intended audience and review its permissions before publishing.

Avoid

  • Do not assume a skill grants access to data or tools outside the user's existing permissions.

01

What a Skill is

A Skill is a reusable capability that packages instructions and, where allowed, tool usage for repeatable work.

02

Organization skills

Organization skills are available according to organization ownership and permissions.

03

Private skills

Private skills stay limited to their intended owner or permitted audience.

04

Public skills

Public skills can be discoverable outside the owning organization when intentionally published.

05

Owner and organization attribution

Public discovery should preserve clear owner or organization attribution.

06

Permissions

Using a Skill does not grant access to protected data or tools the current user or agent cannot otherwise access.

07

External tools

If a Skill uses external tools, those tools keep their own connection and permission requirements.

08

Publishing and discovery

Publish intentionally, describe the Skill clearly, and keep its permissions and external dependencies visible.
