EU AI transparency rules are now live — product teams need provenance and disclosure built into the interface

EU AI Act Article 50 transparency obligations became enforceable on 2 August 2026, affecting AI interaction disclosure and certain AI-generated or manipulated content.

For product teams, transparency should be implemented as a workflow capability: identify when AI is involved, retain provenance, expose appropriate labels or machine-readable signals, and keep evidence that supports later review.

Outborn AI, AppKit and Governance can separate model execution from disclosure policy so each application can apply the right user-facing treatment while preserving consistent evidence and control.

The European Commission's July 2026 guidance explains that Article 50 transparency duties apply from 2 August 2026, with targeted transitional treatment for certain previously marketed systems. Providers and deployers have different duties; a generic 'AI-generated' label is not always the complete answer.

Map a chatbot, synthetic image workflow and public-interest text publisher separately. For each, determine whether the issue is informing the interacting person, machine-readable marking or disclosure of the published output.
