Revised ESRS cuts reporting complexity — sustainability software should simplify the workflow without losing evidence
The European Commission adopted revised ESRS in July 2026, cutting mandatory datapoints by more than 60% and total datapoints by more than 70%. Carbon and ESG platforms should use that simplification to redesign data collection, materiality and evidence workflows.
The European Commission adopted revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards on 3 July 2026 with the goal of reducing reporting burden while preserving useful disclosures.
For sustainability software, fewer datapoints should become a simpler workflow built around materiality, evidence and reuse rather than merely a shorter form.
Obsi Carbon can use one underlying data model with reporting profiles that scale across company sizes, while Finance, Asset, People and other systems can contribute structured source data and evidence.
ESRS simplification should preserve traceability of disclosed figures
Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/1563, dated 3 July and published on 21 September 2026, amends sustainability reporting standards. Its application depends on the legal effective date and reporting scope; a shorter disclosure checklist does not permit untraceable sustainability claims.
Applied implementation case
Recompute one emissions figure after changing a materiality decision or a reporting boundary. Preserve source activity, emission-factor version, approval and comparison to the prior statement.

Evidence and limits
Assess materiality rationale, evidence coverage, reviewer sign-off, restatements and effective-date handling.
