EU Digital Identity Wallets are nearing rollout — applications need credential-aware identity, not another login button

The European Digital Identity Wallet is approaching its end-2026 implementation milestone. Member States are required to provide at least one wallet, and the architecture is designed for more than sign-in.

Applications need to become credential-aware: they should be able to request specific attributes, support selective disclosure, validate attestations and keep authorization separate from authentication.

For Outborn Account and AppKit, that means modeling credentials and claims as reusable identity inputs while preserving application-level roles, policies and auditability.

A digital identity wallet is not merely a different login icon. A relying party needs a documented set of accepted credential types, trusted issuers, selective disclosure policies, presentation validation and fraud or recovery pathways.

Design a proof-of-age flow that only requests the age threshold rather than a complete identity document. Log the verification result without storing unnecessary disclosed attributes.
