Security agents are moving into the commit path — AI security belongs inside the delivery lifecycle

Google says its AI-native security agents now scan every code change across hundreds of millions of lines of infrastructure code and prevent hundreds of vulnerabilities per month from reaching the codebase or production. For AppKit and Outborn Governance, that points to security controls that run continuously inside delivery workflows instead of after release.

Google Cloud described a new security operating pattern on September 18, 2026: agentic systems embedded directly into the software-development lifecycle, continuously scanning infrastructure changes and helping patch vulnerabilities before they land.

What changed

Google says its AI and Infrastructure teams use agentic methods to scan every code change across hundreds of millions of lines of infrastructure code. According to Google, the approach prevents hundreds of vulnerabilities per month from reaching the codebase or production.

The important architectural change is placement. The security agent is not only a separate chatbot or periodic scanner. It sits close to the commit and review path, where it can inspect context while developers are still able to correct the issue cheaply.

Why it matters

AI-assisted software development increases the volume and speed of code changes. That makes security review harder to scale through manual queues alone. If security controls execute only after deployment, organizations preserve a widening gap between creation speed and assurance speed.

Putting agents inside the delivery path creates a different model: security becomes a continuous system behavior. Findings can be tied to a specific change, repository, author, environment and remediation decision.

Outborn product impact

AppKit can treat security checks as deploy-time and pre-deploy platform controls rather than optional dashboards. Outborn Governance can store the evidence chain for findings, exceptions, approvals and remediation. Outborn Agent Connect can constrain security agents to the repositories, scanners and environments they are allowed to inspect.

Obsi Task can turn validated findings into owned remediation work without losing the source evidence. Obsi Knowledgebase can retain reusable secure-development guidance derived from resolved issues.

Implementation principles

  • Run security agents where code changes are created and reviewed.
  • Bind every finding to a commit, repository, environment and policy version.
  • Keep autonomous fixes inside explicit approval boundaries.
  • Preserve evidence for dismissed findings and approved exceptions.
  • Measure false-positive rate and remediation outcomes, not only raw alert volume.
  • Keep agent credentials scoped to the minimum repositories and tools required.
  • Feed recurring classes of issues back into reusable development policy.

What to watch

The next step is likely tighter coupling between coding agents, security agents and deployment policy. The enterprise-grade differentiator will be evidence and authority: what the security agent inspected, which identity approved a fix or exception, and whether policy enforcement can be reproduced later.

Security checks belong before merge and after deployment

A code-scanning agent may discover a vulnerable flow in a PR, but production behavior can diverge because of feature flags, secrets and dependency differences. Secure delivery must connect static analysis, review, release provenance and runtime signal.

Reproducible scenario

Insert a test-only insecure endpoint and verify that policy blocks the PR. Then mutate deployment configuration in staging and ensure runtime checks catch the changed exposure.

Architecture in context

Conceptual workflow, not an operational assertion about a vendor.

Validation criteria

Track findings verified with reproducers, merged regressions, patch latency and production escape rate.
