Agents need governed relationships, not just raw tables — semantic graphs are moving into the data layer
Google Cloud’s August 2026 BigQuery Graph update combines relationship-aware graphs with governed measures for agentic workloads. The pattern is relevant to Outborn AI, Governance and Knowledgebase: agents need deterministic business semantics and relationships before they can make dependable operational decisions.
Giving an AI agent direct access to enterprise tables does not automatically give it business understanding. The agent still needs governed relationships and consistent metric definitions.
A relationship-aware semantic layer can connect canonical entities while keeping measures such as revenue, utilization or emissions centrally defined and versioned.
For Outborn, Governance can own definitions and lineage, Knowledgebase can preserve explanatory context, domain apps can expose canonical entities, AppKit can register schemas and allowed capabilities, and Outborn AI can reason over those governed structures.
Semantic graphs need business definitions as well as edges
A graph showing a customer linked to two entities does not clarify whether 'customer' means bill-to account, user, contractual counterparty or parent company. Agents need governed relationship types, metric definitions and temporal semantics to produce consistent answers.
Applied implementation case
Ask for revenue by ultimate parent company across ownership changes. Require the same business-date rule in graph traversal and the warehouse aggregation.

Evidence and limits
Evaluate entity matching, effective-date joins, metric versioning, policy-filtered paths and reproducibility from raw records.
